Guatemala City

Guatemala City is likely to be the starting point of your visit to Guatemala. It also has some worthwhile points of interest that you may want to check out.

Guatemala City is the capital of Guatemala and has some very interesting museums which one can visit. This includes an archeological museum, the museum of the Popol Vuh, and a textile museum (all pictured in the above slide show). I always like to visit the market place as well as that is usually one of the important centers of life.

The markeplace at Guatemala City is located downtown one floor below street level. It has an abundance of fruits, vegetables, meats, herbs and a wide range of food and other products including incense. The various stands are staffed by women wearing traditional Guatemalan textiles and colors.

If you really like marketplaces, though, a side trip to Chichicastenango is a must.
